About
The Water Chorus are a Sheffield/London based traditional folk band playing traditional material from across Britain and Ireland. Our music ranges from the raucously celebratory to the eerily affecting, and we particularly focus on energetic live performance.
Our most recent EP ‘Scorn’ received a ‘Must Listen’ from Folk London and launched to a sold out gig at The Lexington in London.
We were the 2026 winners of Purbeck Rising and will be playing on the main stage at Purbeck Valley Folk Festival next year. We had a full festival season, including performing at Fire in the Mountain, Oxford Folk Festival, King Harvest Festival and Great North Folk Festival, and headlining Wyrd Folk Festival at The Fleece Inn. We also run workshops on traditional singing across the UK and have developed a live puppet show with Iranian-American puppeteers Mina Odile and Leyla Ebtehadj to accompany the tracks on our EP.
We’ve supported our hero Martin Carthy at Peggy’s Skylight in Nottingham, as well as headlining Hireath Folk Club in Brighton and Green Note in London to packed out audiences. We’ve been artists in residence at The National Centre for Folk Arts, and our repertoire was recently recorded for The British Library Folk Archives for Folk in the Wild.
